The same flight is rarely the same price everywhere. Booking sites like Skyscanner, Kayak, and Trip.com run separate regional versions for different countries, and the fares they show can differ substantially for an identical itinerary. RegionFare compares these markets on every search — which means we can answer, with data, a question that is usually answered with guesswork: which country's booking market is actually cheapest?

Across 894 real user searches on 458 distinct routes, the median gap between the cheapest and most expensive market's cheapest fare was 11.5% (average 21.6%). And while Sweden tops the league table below, 60 different countries were cheapest on at least one route — no market wins everywhere.

Methodology

This data comes from real user searches on RegionFare between February and October 2026. Each search compares the same route and date across up to 97 regional versions of major booking platforms (Skyscanner, Google Flights, Kayak, Momondo, Kiwi.com, Trip.com, eDreams). A search is included only if at least 3 markets returned a price. All prices are converted to USD at daily exchange rates. Internal test traffic is excluded, and searches with spreads above 200% are dropped as likely scrape errors. The league table is aggregated per route — a route searched many times counts once — so popular routes don't skew the ranking. Figures update as new search data accumulates.

Sweden most often: its booking market had the lowest price on 18.8% of the 458 routes we analyzed, followed by Austria (16.6%) and Norway (12.7%). But no single market wins everywhere — 60 different countries were cheapest on at least one route, so the winner depends on the specific route and date.

How much cheaper are flights in other countries' booking markets?

Across 894 real searches, the median gap between the cheapest and most expensive market for the same route and date was 11.5% (average 21.6%). That compares the cheapest fare each market offered, which is not always the identical flight; restricted to identical itineraries — same airlines, departure time and duration, priced in at least three markets — the median gap is 5.6% across 6,698 itineraries, and 21.9% of them differ by under 2%. The largest documented gaps exceeded 50% — for example LOND-IBOM at $3,824 via the Azerbaijan market versus $6,206 in the most expensive market.

How is this data collected?

Every number comes from real user searches on RegionFare, which checks the same flight across up to 97 regional versions of booking sites like Skyscanner, Kayak, Momondo, and Trip.com. A search counts only if at least 3 markets returned a price; all prices are converted to USD at daily exchange rates, internal test traffic is excluded, and spreads above 200% are dropped as scrape errors. Rankings are aggregated per route so no single popular route skews the results.

Do I need a VPN to book from a cheaper country's market?

No. Regional pricing is determined by which country's version of the booking site you use — the URL, not your IP address. RegionFare links directly to the cheapest market's booking page, where you complete the purchase normally with your own card.
